The blue and green areas of this image represent regions where the solar magnetic fields have little or no strength, and temperatures are at 50,000 to 100,000 degrees Celsius. Unlike in the photosphere, regions in the corona with stronger magnetic fields are hotter and those with weak or no magnetic fields are cooler. Indeed, when sunspots are more plentiful and the solar magnetic fields are stronger, radio emission from the Sun is also stronger.
